 The Reference Desk:

Application Note Search Engine is ON!

At last count QuadTech had 120 application notes in its library. Now instead of searching a subject or numerical index of all 120 titles, you can enter keywords into the Application Note Search Engine and find the notes that apply to your area of interest. Simple as that.

Ground Bond Testing per UL 60950

Have you ever read UL 60950? Did you grasp how to do the ground bond test in paragraph 2.6.3? Not an easy test but this standard-specific discussion attempts to define protective earth and the test methods associated with it. A few definitions, a little clarification and two examples round out this application note.

What Voltage and Current is Applied to the Unknown?

The voltage across and current through the device under test are necessary values in determining the exact impedance of the DUT. Run through a full example using a 2uF capacitor and a 1693 Digibridge. Mathematical formulas plus V vs. Z and I vs. Z graphs are provided for the 1600 Digibridge instruments.

Characteristic Cable Impedance

What is characteristic impedance (Zo)? Can the impedance of coaxial cable be accurately measured? The 7600 Precision LCR Meter can do it! Explore the properties of cable transmission and how Zo is important in determining a cable's parameters.

National Deviations to IEC60601-1

What are the differences between UL2601-1 and IEC60601-1? What does a national standard have in addition to the international standard? This final installment in the series of 8 articles on IEC60601-1 illustrates some concrete examples of national deviations to the international governing standard. Medical device approval is discussed also.

 Product Spotlight:

1920 LCR Meter Baffles Us!

QuadTech designed the 1920 LCR Meter as a precision impedance analyzer for production and research applications. A mid-range instrument in QuadTech's LCR Product Family and designed by engineers, it is not the best-looking instrument, in fact, the 1920 is plain ugly. Then why does it sell so well? The 1920 instrument is simply the best 1MHz LCR Meter on the market. Feature rich and justly priced. Find out yourself by visiting the 1920 product page.
