| QuadTech partnered with Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts August 15 and 22, 2007 to help build a wheelchair accessible house in Acton, MA. The Acton project is being built for the De Souza family of Leominster, MA and will be wheelchair accessible to accommodate the needs of their oldest daughter.

QuadTech employees helped the site crew do everything from digging out rocks around the foundation of the house, to framing walls for the garage, to putting up parts of the roofing. The De Souza family, who are required to put 500 hours of sweat equity into the building of the house, were onsite to help with construction and talk with QuadTech employees.
Habitat for Humanity relies on donations of labor, time, materials and money to help build or renovate homes. Mike Cronin, VP of Worldwide Sales at QuadTech says, “Our site leader told us the goal was to have some fun and hopefully get some good work done, too. I think we accomplished that.”
Kim Southern, VP of Operations at QuadTech adds, “It was a great team building activity for us.We accomplished a lot on the house and really had a blast. Working with Habitat for Humanity, I think everyone felt like they were doing something worthwhile.”
Megan Foley, executive director of Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts, added, “We love having workforce groups come to help build a simple, decent Habitat home. They enjoy working alongside family members who are building and earning their own home. It’s a great teambuilding activity that benefits the community and the company.”
Habitat houses are sold to project families at no profit and financed through affordable loans. Silvia and her husband, Marcos, along with their three children, Rebeca, Miria and Isaque, and niece Bruna, hope to move into their new home before Christmas. Silvia noted, “Around Thanksgiving would be nice. We are all very excited.”
President and CEO, Phil Harris, says he’ll be in attendance the day Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts officially gives the De Souza’s the keys to their new home, “To see the De Souza’s move into their new home and know that the QuadTech family had a small part in making that happen, well, it will be a pretty good moment.” Harris adds, “We’ve got a housewarming present for them too. We made a nice collage of our time working with them on the project.”
Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical Christian ministry that welcomes to its work all people dedicated to the cause of eliminating poverty housing. Since its founding in 1976, Habitat has built more than 225,000 houses worldwide, providing simple, decent and affordable shelter for more than 1 million people. QuadTech Exhibits at MDM - Minnesota
MDM-MN - Oct. 17-18, 2007, Minneapolis, MN
The MD&M Minneapolis 2007 Conference is a resource event for medical device and equipment manufacturers. QuadTech will be exhiting its Sentinel System October 17-18, 2007 at Booth #1434.
The Sentinel System was designed specifically to address the electrical safety testing needs of Medical Device Manufacturers (MDMs). QuadTech has a dedicated team of professionals who focus exclusively on the needs of Medical Device Manufacturers (MDMs) and possess in-depth knowledge of medical applications. This team, which is comprised of individuals who are experts in IEC 60601 testing processes and MDM manufacturing, will be available during the MD&M Minnesota show to share their knowledge of the industry and discuss how QuadTech’s Sentinel System Solution is impacting MDMs.
A key driver for the future of testing is automation. Automating the testing process enables MDMs to collaborate on a global level, keep production costs down, collect data electronically, improve compliance with global regulatory requirements such as IEC60601-1, and improve the overall efficiency of manufacturing processes. President and CEO, Phil Harris says, “QuadTech continues to focus on the development and enhancement of electrical safety testing solutions for the medical community.”
QuadTech Engineer Presents at IEEE-PSES Symposium
IEEE-PSES Symposium, Oct. 22-23, 2007, Denver, CO
Shari Richardson, EST Product Manager for QuadTech, will be presenting a paper at the 2007 IEEE Symposium on Product Compliance Engineering being held October 22-23, 2007 in Denver, CO. Please find the paper abstract below.
Calculating the Current Limits to Use in Production Line Dielectric Withstand Tests
For Dielectric Withstand tests, the test standards specify the voltage and the time requirement. In regard to current limits, however, the standards must be vague. Each product has a unique impedance. Therefore, in determining whether a DUT passes or fails, a standard can say only, “each product shall withstand without electrical breakdown.” Two questions must be addressed by the production line QA manager: 1) What does the term “breakdown” mean? 2) How to calculate the settings for the current limits on a programmable tester?
This article includes the result of a survey as to what the term “breakdown” means, and provides a working definition of the term. Next, the article proposes two methods for determining the impedance of a product: sampling and/or using the number provided by the design engineers. To make the process smoother, we suggest, the design engineers should run test samples of impedance in the design phase. The results can be entered in the design specs, which the production line QA people can then refer to.

Featured FAQ
What are Patient Source Sink Current?
Patient Source Current, in IEC60601-1 terminology, is Patient Leakage Current. This is the leakage current flowing out of an applied part, through the patient, and returning back into ground.
Patient Sink Current, in IEC60601-1 terminology, is F-Type Leakage Current. This is the leakage current flowing from the patient, back into a BF or CF applied part as a result of 110% of highest rated mains voltage being applied to the applied part.
