Accurate, High-Speed Production Testing of 100kHz ESR Meter

Maynard, Mass. - QuadTech, Inc., formerly GenRad Instruments, announced today that it has added a new capacitance meter to its line of impedance measuring instruments built on its NEW generation platform, the 1900 Series Capacitance Meter/ESR Meter. The 1930 is optimized for high-speed testing and low Equivalent Series Resistance, ESR measurements, on tantalum and other types of capacitors.

With the onslaught of portable electronic devices in today's high-tech world, the demand placed on capacitive components to store greater amounts of energy and supply higher instantaneous currents, is escalating. Current trends favor more efficient devices with higher values of capacitance and lower energy loss, thus requiring measurements on capacitors with ESR measurement values in the low milliohm range. The 1930 Capacitance meter ESR meter was specifically engineered to out-perform other LCR meters when making these low ESR measurements at 100kHz. Additionally, it's unique fast settle time (50msec/mF) and quick recovery (<10msec) from open or shorted devices makes it ideal for production testing of large capacitors.

The 1930 was designed for high reliability with extensive use of SMD components and limited internal cabling. Features such as the measurement of 15 impedance parameters, 0.1% accuracy, test frequencies to 100kHz, high throughput sequential testing and monitoring of AC or DC current and voltage to the device under test, makes for the highest performance capacitance meter for low ESR measurements, in its price range. The 1930 is ideal in applications where accuracy, speed and repeatability are important. It includes IEEE-488, RS-232 and handler interfaces all standard, eliminating the need to purchase expensive options separately when automation or datalogging are a necessary requirement.

In addition to the 1930's specialty (low ESR measurement), it is the ideal instrument for any low impedance measurement. It will measure, display and output the results of any two parameters, including: series or parallel capacitance (C), AC resistance (R), or Inductance (L), dissipation factor (D), quality factor (Q), impedance (Z), phase angle (q), DC resistance (DCR) and others. The unit's basic measurement accuracy is 0.1% and provides 1Hz resolution from 100Hz to 100kHz. This measurement capability coupled with the ability to run up to six different tests in sequence result in increased productivity, through fast, single pass testing. The 1930 offers a number of other exceptional features including, setup storage of 30 test programs, load correction to further enhance instrument accuracy, constant voltage mode to compensate for instrument source and device impedance and DC voltage bias.

As with many of QuadTech's instruments, the flexibility of hardware and software employed in the 1930 capacitance measurement instrument and ESR meter makes it configurable for QuadTech's Application Specific Testing Solutions (ASTS), whereby a unit is factory customized to meet a customer's unique or changing test requirements.
