QUADTECH INTRODUCES GUARDIAN 6200 PRODUCTION SAFETY ANALYZER
All-In-One Electrical Safety Tester for Electrical Products and Small Appliances
Maynard, MA - February 11, 2000 - QuadTech, Inc., formerly GenRad Instruments, adds the Model 6200 to its popular line of Guardian 6000 Electrical Safety Analyzer, insulation resistance tester and dielectric tester lineup. The 6200 was designed as an All-In-One, fast and efficient production tester for single-phase electrical products and small appliances. It is the only multi-function safety tester on the market capable of performing five electrical safety tests, including dielectric testing, insulation resistance testing as well as functional checks for current draw and power consumption. With the push of a button all the electrical safety tests, including Hipot, insulation resistance testing, dielectric testing, ground bond, line leakage, and power consumption, can be performed in sequence and the final pass/fail result indicated. Without changing the connection to the product, all these tests can be performed automatically, in succession, on a wide variety of single-phase electrical products and small appliances, eliminating the need for multiple test stations and reconnecting test cables.
The trend towards multi-function electrical safety testers is twofold: having several test functions in one box streamlines the process of meeting today's test requirements for UL, CSA, IEC and other product safety standards while ensuring the flexibility to deal with future products and their test requirements. The 6200 can perform AC Hipot Testing from 50 to 5000V, DC Hipot testing from 50 to 6000V, insulation resistance (IR) measurements over the range of 100k to 50G, ground bond testing to 30A and line/earth leakage measurements from 0.1mA to 9.999mA, and dielectric test. The 6200's current trip levels for both AC and DC Hipot testing functions are user programmable from 1mA to 40mA AC and 0.1mA to 20mA DC, ideal for a broad selection of products over a wide range of leakage currents.
Insulation resistance testing (similar to DC Hipot testing) calculates and displays a product's insulation resistance value in ohms at any programmed test voltage between 50 and 1000V DC. The ground bond test, sometimes referred to as a high current continuity test, is capable of supplying 1 to 30A for verifying the integrity of a product's ground system. The earth leakage current test can be set to measure the current flowing through a product's line cord ground connector in configurations specified in UL and IEC standards. Additionally, the unit is capable of monitoring line voltage, current, or power consumption (VA) with the product under normal power-up conditions, an important final test for verifying the functionality of many small appliances.
Up to 50 unique sets of test conditions and limits can be stored in instrument memory for later recall. All tests provide the ability to program both high and low limits for the measured parameter, a go/no-go decision is made based on these limits and any failed measurement results indicated. The 6200 also offers a password protected front panel lockout to prevent an operator from inadvertently altering test conditions. For automated system applications the unit comes standard with IEEE-488 interface; RS-232 and printer interfaces are available as an option.
