QUADTECH TEAMS UP WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
QuadTech President and CEO, Phil Harris, donates his employees’ time to help build wheelchair accessible Habitat for Humanity House in Acton, MA.
Maynard, MA – September 11, 2007 –QuadTech, a leading provider of electrical safety test and passive component measurement solutions, partnered with Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts August 15 and 22, 2007 to help build a house in Acton, MA.
The Acton project is being built for the De Souza family of Leominster, MA and will be wheelchair accessible to accommodate the needs of their oldest daughter, Rebeca. The De Souza family came to the US seeking better healthcare for Rebeca, who has cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. Required to put 500 hours of sweat equity into the building of Habitat houses, the De Souza family was onsite to help with construction and talk with QuadTech employees. One QuadTech employee noted, “To see the work they are putting into building their home, it was really something.”
Kim Southern, VP of Operations at QuadTech adds, “It was a great team building activity for us. We accomplished a lot on the house and really had a blast. Working with Habitat for Humanity, I think everyone felt like they were doing something worthwhile.”
Megan Foley, executive director of Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts, added, “We love having workforce groups come to help build a simple, decent Habitat home. They enjoy working alongside family members who are building and earning their own home. It’s a great teambuilding activity that benefits the community and the company.”
Habitat for Humanity relies on donations of labor, time, materials and money to help build or renovate homes. QuadTech employees helped the site crew do everything from digging out rocks around the foundation of the house, to framing walls for the garage, to putting up parts of the roofing.
Mike Cronin, VP of Worldwide Sales at QuadTech says, “Our site leader told us the goal was to have some fun and hopefully get some good work done, too. I think we accomplished that.”
Silvia and her husband, Marcos, along with their three children, Rebeca, Miria and Isaque, and niece Bruna, hope to move into their new home before Christmas. Silvia noted, “Around Thanksgiving would be nice. We are all very excited.”
Harris plans to be in attendance the day Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts officially gives the De Souza’s the keys to their new home, “To see the De Souza’s move into their new home and know that the QuadTech family had a small part in making that happen, well, it will be a pretty good moment.”
